P874: Engaging students in course content and chemical literature with IF-AT scratch offs

Helen Boylan, Larry Miller (Westminster College, USA)

Immediate Feedback Assessment Technique (IF-AT) is a multiple choice scratch-off sheet that allows students to learn from their mistakes. Developed by psychology professors Dr. Michael Epstein and Dr. Gray Brosvic, IF-AT is based on pschological principles related to learning and memory. This approach facilitates learning during an assessment, improves retention, and is just plain fun. We have used IF-AT in association with case studies in non-majors courses, in conjunction with primary literature readings in analytical courses, and most recently, with course content in organic chemistry. This poster will present results of a study that tested students” literacy skills before and after a semester of using IF-AT in Instrumental Analysis.
