W16: POGIL Project Workshop: Biochemistry active learning workshop

Vicky Minderhout, Seattle University
Jenny Loertscher, Seattle University
Dan Apple, Pacific Crest

Process-oriented guided inquiry learning (POGIL) is based on research indicating that students who work as part of small groups in an active classroom are more likely to be successful in learning.  This approach acknowledges that knowledge is personal: students enjoy themselves more and develop greater ownership over the material when they are given an opportunity to construct their own understanding.  This workshop will engage participants in active learning strategies by modeling classroom structure and formative assessment techniques using biochemistry materials; 3-hour session.

Intended Audience: UG

$25 fee; limit of 40 participants
